The WB Parks and Recreation Foundation was founded in 2005 when a group of WB Parks and recreation Advisory Board members and concerned residents identified a gap between park amenity needs and town funding. The committee obtained a 501(c)3 status and started a membership and sponsorship drive with proceeds going to improve park equipment such as a new gazebo, picnic table and grills and a kayak for the Wrightsville Beach Elementary School. Additionally, the group held a tennis tournament to raise funds for the courts, a 5k run and fun walk to cover the costs of the WB Farmers Market, the first skateboard day in the park, and a sponsorship drive for the first annual Family Movie Night in the Park.

The Town of Wrightsville Beach has been blessed with unique natural resources coupled with an excellent Parks and Recreation Team. The Foundation's goals moving forward are to continue to help the Town grow and maintain these assets through fundraising efforts.

The Foundation's efforts will focus on enhancing various facilities for all age groups, with a concentration on family, group and community interaction—creating activity centers and facilities that bring people together--promoting sportsmanship, teamwork, learning, and community service.
